At the beginning of the 14th-century, he decorated the interior of the chapel with a series of frescoes. Using a more expressive and naturalistic style, Giotto revolutionized the Western art by the representation in space. You can read the emotions on the faces of his characters and admire what is considered to be the first kiss in the art history.
Scrovegni Chapel’s frescoes together with other seven 14th-century frescoed buildings from Padua are part of the same UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From April through October, you can visit Scrovegni Chapel also in the evenings.
In the afternoon, visit the historic city of Ferrara with its Castello Estense and Palazzo dei Diamanti. Taste the local delicacy, capellaci of pumpkin.
Late in the afternoon head to Dozza. Renowned artists come in this town, surrounded by hills, every two years in September, during The festival of murals. A long time ago, some locals emigrated to Scotland and more recently their descendants returned here where from this multinational culture. You can drink Irn Bru and attend a festival depending on the month you arrive: fish and chips, opera or the long-running one dedicated to jazz. Admire the grandiose limestone facade of the Romanesque San Cristoforo Church.
